As a Support and Wellbeing Advisor at SSAFA’s Glasgow Helping Heroes, you will deliver high‑quality, person‑centred support to the Armed Forces Community across Glasgow and surrounding areas. You’ll provide advice, practical support and casework, tailoring each intervention to the beneficiary’s needs and promoting inclusion, removing barriers and improving access to services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Triaging new enquiries
- Managing a varied caseload of beneficiaries and their families
- Liaising with external partners such as Glasgow City Council, local authorities and GP practices
- Supporting the planning and delivery of social and resilience‑building projects
- Securing funding to assist beneficiaries with household goods, essential food, energy costs and debt‑related support
This role offers varied, rewarding work where no two days are the same, and you’ll gain experience in multi‑agency working, safeguarding, crisis intervention, case management and project delivery.
The team works from a dog‑friendly office at the Pearce Institute in Govan, Glasgow, with the option to work remotely one day per week after probation. GHH is a partnership between SSAFA and Glasgow City Council, focusing on trauma‑informed, holistic, wrap‑around support to serving personnel, veterans and families. The team collaborates closely with partners such as Glasgow City Homeless Casework Teams, Citizens Advice Scotland, Veterans Housing Scotland, Erskine Veterans Village, Scottish Veterans Residences and Defence Medical Welfare Services. Stakeholder events are attended throughout the week.
You are proactive, organised, compassionate and resilient, with a strong commitment to improving outcomes for the Armed Forces Community. Relevant experience or transferable skills, combined with a genuine interest in working with people affected by complex trauma, are welcome. You possess integrity, the confidence to manage workload, sound decision‑making under pressure and the ability to maintain boundaries and adapt to challenges. Strong communication, emotional awareness and problem‑solving skills are essential. The role involves travel across the city and surrounding areas, responding to change and uncertainty.
