About the Role Our client is seeking an experienced Project Safety Lead to support the safe delivery of a major capital project at a production and packaging facility in Leven, Fife. The project involves the installation of a new production line, incorporating construction works, mechanical and electrical (M&E) packages, process equipment and packaging machinery within an operational manufacturing environment. Working as part of a multidisciplinary project team, you will provide visible safety leadership throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that contractors and subcontractors implement the required safety standards and maintain a strong safety culture. You will act as a key link between the project team, contractors, designers, engineering safety specialists and site operations, helping to identify and manage risks from project planning through to construction, installation and commissioning. Key Responsibilities * Provide visible safety leadership across all construction, engineering, installation and commissioning activities. * Ensure the effective implementation of project safety policies, standards and best practices. * Work closely with contractors and subcontractors to maintain high standards of health and safety throughout the project. * Lead and support risk assessments, including HAZOP, RAMS and GRMS, where applicable. * Conduct site inspections, safety audits and assurance reviews to identify risks and drive improvements. * Monitor contractor safety performance, ensuring safe systems of work are implemented and followed. * Challenge unsafe acts, behaviours and conditions, promoting behavioural-based safety and a proactive safety culture. * Lead incident, near-miss and unsafe-condition investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action planning. * Monitor leading and lagging safety performance indicators, identifying trends and implementing appropriate interventions. * Support contractor-led safety initiatives that reflect the changing risk profile throughout the project lifecycle. * Build strong working relationships with project managers, designers, contractors and operational site leadership. * Provide practical safety guidance to project teams, translating safety standards and legal requirements into effective site practices. * Drive continuous improvement by sharing lessons learned and implementing corrective and preventative measures. Essential Requirements * A minimum of five years' experience in on-site construction health and safety. * A recognised engineering or technical qualification. * An additional health and safety qualification relevant to the construction sector. * Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction safety regulations. * Experience managing health and safety on complex construction, engineering or capital investment projects. * Experience overseeing contractors and subcontractors across construction and installation activities. * A strong understanding of high-risk activities and risk management processes. * Excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills. * The ability to challenge unsafe practices confidently while working collaboratively to resolve issues. * A proactive, solution-focused approach with strong site presence and safety leadership capabilities. * Fluent English. Desirable Experience Experience in one or more of the following environments would be particularly beneficial: * Live operational manufacturing or food and beverage production facilities. * Mechanical and electrical installation projects. * Process engineering and production line installations. * Greenfield and brownfield construction projects. * High-risk ATEX environments and COMAH-regulated sites. * Major capital expenditure projects involving multiple contractors and complex commissioning activities.
