About the client

Our client is an established and growing specialist contractor delivering complex RC Frame, Groundworks, Basements, and Civil Engineering packages across London and the South East. They are seeking an experienced Senior Health & Safety Manager to lead and develop the company’s health, safety, environmental, and compliance functions.

About the role

This is a senior leadership role suited to an experienced H&S professional with a strong background in reinforced concrete frames, groundwork packages, heavy civils, and high-risk construction operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving a proactive safety culture across multiple live projects while ensuring full compliance with UK legislation, industry standards, and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all Health & Safety activities across multiple RC Frame and Groundworks projects.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve company HSEQ policies, procedures, and management systems.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits, and compliance reviews across live construction sites.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, HSE legislation, ISO standards, and company procedures.
  • Advise senior management, project teams, and operational staff on all health and safety matters.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and non-conformances, producing detailed reports and corrective action plans.
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance and site performance standards.
  • Produce RAMS reviews, risk assessments, toolbox talks, safety alerts, and training materials.
  • Support pre-construction teams with tender documentation, logistics planning, and construction phase planning.
  • Liaise with clients, principal contractors, local authorities, and external auditors.
  • Drive behavioural safety initiatives and promote a positive safety-first culture throughout the business.
  • Assist in achieving and maintaining ISO 45001 and other relevant accreditations.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a Senior Health & Safety role within RC Frames, Groundworks, Civils, or Structural Concrete sectors.
  • Strong understanding of high-risk construction activities including: Excavations, Temporary works, Concrete Frame construction, Lifting operations and working at heights.
  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) essential.
  • Chartered IOSH membership preferred.
  • Excellent working knowledge of CDM Regulations and UK HSE legislation.
  • Experience managing safety across multiple fast-paced construction sites.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • Experience within Tier 1 or specialist subcontracting environments.
  • Knowledge of ISO management systems.
  • Temporary Works or Environmental qualifications advantageous.
  • Experience working on complex London-based construction projects.
