An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Health & Safety Advisor to support a major infrastructure project. Ensuring effective implementation of health, safety, and environmental management systems. Working closely with delivery teams, the role focuses on promoting a strong safety culture, maintaining statutory compliance, and supporting the delivery of incidentāfree projects. A proactive approach, strong communication skills, and a full UK driving licence are required.
Responsibilities- Be an integral part of the Project Delivery team, helping to deliver accident and incident free projects.
- Advising contract and site staff on content of risk assessments, method statements, taskāspecific briefings, Site Health & Safety Plans, and safety issues generally.
- Chair Project level monthly HSEQ Forward Planning meeting, conduct monthly HSEQ Audits and inspections, ensure closure of nonāconformances. Engage with staff and workforce while on projects.
- Represent the Company at Safety meetings with Clients and SubāContractors. Attend Project PreāStart Meetings and SubāContractor PreāStart Meetings.
- Accident Investigation and reports. Carry out with the Project Delivery Team and ensure improvement actions are identified and closed out. Produce relevant Safety Bulletins for company wide distribution.
- Communication of safety initiatives/notices/alerts to staff and workforce.
- Liaison with HSQE Director or Head of Health and Safety - producing monthly Project summaries, assisting in Group procedure reviews. Attend weekly HSEQ review meeting.
- Assist with development and deliver ināhouse safety training programs/presentations.
- Issue staff information as to changes in technology, work methods or statutory requirements by means of safety bulletins, and internal safety procedures applicable to the Company.
- Keep up to speed with client H&S Standards and Specifications and ensure that these are implemented at project level.
- Devise strategies to meet targets and encourage best practices ensuring compliance with HSE legislation.
- Undertake other duties commensurate with the level of this position.
- Comply with Company policies & procedures.
- Qualifications & Technical Knowledge
- NEBOSH General and/or Construction Certificate (or equivalent).
- IOSH Membership.
- Valid CSCS Card.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Strong knowledge of statutory Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations.
- Good understanding of CDM 2015 Regulations and duty holder responsibilities.
- Knowledge of client health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Previous experience working on civil engineering or construction projects.
- Experience across drainage, groundworks, structures, temporary works, reinforced concrete, earthworks, and lifting operations.
- Experience carrying out site inspections, audits, and accident investigations.
- IT literate.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proactive approach to improving safety culture and performance.
- Ability to lead, influence, and manage HSE policies, procedures, and practices.
- Confident in delivering training, briefings, and toolbox talks.
- Collaborative team player able to work effectively with site teams, clients, and the supply chain.
- Strong problemāsolving skills with a proactive, solutionsāfocused mindset.
