Overview
In this role you will provide proactive health and safety support across a major civil infrastructure project. You’ll work with site teams, engineers, and subcontractors to uphold company procedures, client requirements, and legislation. You will help drive a positive safety culture and continuous improvement on the project. This is a hands-on role with a clear impact on project risk, compliance, and operational safety.

Responsibilities
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety tours
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, client requirements, and UK health & safety legislation
- Support site teams with risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Deliver toolbox talks, site briefings, and health & safety inductions
- Monitor subcontractor performance and maintain high safety standards
- Assist with development and implementation of project HSEQ initiatives
- Produce reports and maintain accurate health & safety records
- Build strong relationships with operational teams to promote a positive behavioural safety culture
- Support external audits and client inspections as required
Key requirements
- Previous Health & Safety Advisor experience within civil engineering or major infrastructure projects
- Experience with Tier 1 or principal contractor is highly desirable
- Knowledge of earthworks, highways, rail, utilities, or large-scale infrastructure projects advantageous
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate or NEBOSH General Certificate (essential)
- Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH, CertIOSH or working towards)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
