Overview
In this role you lead steel fabrication projects from planning to delivery, ensuring on-time, on-budget, and quality outcomes. You collaborate across engineering, procurement, workshop and site teams to keep projects on track and resolve fabrication issues. You’ll drive safety, profitability, and continuous improvement while mentoring the fabrication team and communicating with stakeholders. This is a hands-on leadership role in a civil engineering and fabrication context with a focus on structural steel.
Responsibilities
- Lead full project lifecycle: planning, scheduling, budgeting, and delivery
- Interpret drawings, specs and fabrication requirements to guide work
- Coordinate across engineering, procurement, workshop and site teams
- Monitor fabrication progress and resolve technical/production issues
- Manage suppliers, subcontractors and material logistics
- Ensure health & safety, quality and industry standard compliance
- Track costs, manage risks and maintain profitability
- Provide regular project updates and reports to stakeholders and clients
- Lead and supervise fabrication teams and coordinators
- Allocate resources and sustain productivity; mentor team and promote skills growth
- Foster safety culture and enforce procedures
- Act as primary point of contact for stakeholders and demonstrate decisive leadership
Key requirements
- Experience managing full project lifecycle in steel fabrication or similar
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and fabrication specifications
- Strong cross-functional coordination across engineering, procurement, workshop and site teams
- Proven track record in cost tracking, budgeting and delivering projects profitably
- Experience managing suppliers, subcontractors and material logistics
- Commitment to health & safety, quality and industry standards
- Strong stakeholder communication and reporting skills
