Overview

We’re looking for a hands‑on Infrastructure Security Engineer to support the deployment, management, and optimization of the infrastructure that powers SS8’s Intelligence solutions.

This role sits at the intersection of secure infrastructure operations, platform engineering, and mission‑critical service delivery, ensuring our environments remain resilient, scalable, and aligned with customer and business requirements.

As a highly skilled Infrastructure Security Engineer, you will leverage your expertise to install, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and document SS8’s infrastructure platforms and supporting technologies.

This role involves working across a range of on‑premises and hybrid environments, with a primary focus on VMware, Proxmox, and Windows Server technologies, while also providing opportunities to expand into Linux administration, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, and other emerging technologies.

The successful candidate will be required to work onsite in the Farnborough (Hampshire) office three days per week and hold a full UK driving licence, as the role involves occasional travel to customer sites and international travel as needed.

  • What You’ll Work On
  • Field installation and support of infrastructure hosting SS8 products, often within secure customer environments.
  • Administration and maintenance of VMware, Proxmox, and Windows Server platforms.
  • System hardening and security compliance in line with CESG/CIS benchmarks and industry best practices.
  • Deployment and management of patching, antivirus, and SIEM solutions. Infrastructure upgrades, new technology introduction, and customer environment support.
  • Documentation, knowledge transfer, and customer training activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and support infrastructure hosting SS8 products.
  • Ensure client PCs and servers are appropriately hardened and secured.
  • Administer Domain Controllers, including FSMO roles, high availability, and replication monitoring.
  • Implement periodic patching schedules for client PCs and Windows Servers.
  • Deploy and maintain antivirus solutions across customer environments.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain SIEM solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and knowledge transfer materials.
  • Assist customers with hardware and software upgrades.
  • Act as the technical interface for New Infrastructure Introduction (NII). S
  • Support customers with equipment configuration and infrastructure operations.
  • Deliver infrastructure training to customers as required.
  • Provide remote technical support and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in customer technical assistance and incident resolution calls.
  • Participate in an on‑call rotation to provide 24x7 customer support coverage.
  • Required Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a high-tech environment, preferably within telecommunications.
  • Prior commercial experience in an infrastructure engineering or administration role.
  • Experience using Power Shell to automate installation and deployment processes.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining Microsoft Exchange-based messaging systems.
  • Experience managing and maintaining Proxmox environments, including VM and template creation.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining VMware v Sphere environments, including virtual machines and virtual switches.
  • Experience administering Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Organizational Units, and Group Policy.
  • Experience working with Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), particularly in air-gapped environments.
  • Experience managing sheep-dipping terminals and processes for securely handling removable media.
  • Experience implementing security baselines and server hardening, particularly CIS Level 2 Benchmarks.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including LAN/WAN, routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Strong technical understanding of network and IT security.
  • Excellent customer service, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as required, including possession of a valid UK driving license.
  • Ability to obtain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance, or currently hold an active security clearance.

  • Knowledge of UNIX/Linux system and service administration.
  • Experience deploying and supporting Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions such as Net App, Dell, or True NAS, including i SCSI block storage, NFS shares, and virtualization platform integrations.
  • Experience working with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solutions.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining Atlassian Confluence.
  • Broad understanding of regulatory compliance requirements and frameworks.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerized software deployment methodologies.
