Location: Farnborough (Hampshire), UK Office (Hybrid)
Job Description: As a Junior Services Engineer, you will support the successful deployment and integration of SS8’s solutions at customer sites. Working closely with senior engineers, project managers, and customers, you will assist in installing, configuring, and testing high-availability systems across a range of environments, including telecom networks, datacenters, and cloud platforms. The successful candidate will be required to work onsite in the Farnborough (Hampshire) office 3 days per week and have a valid UK driving license, as this role will involve ad hoc travel to customer sites. The role will require occasional domestic and international travel (up to 25%).
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the installation and configuration of SS8 lawful intelligence and analytics solutions.
- Participate in system integrations involving telecom network elements (e.g., DPI, probes, mediation systems).
- Support on-site and remote deployments, ensuring solutions meet customer and regulatory requirements.
- Work with senior engineers to troubleshoot issues, escalate bugs, and verify fixes.
- Run system health checks, perform acceptance testing, and generate implementation documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of implementation progress and provide timely status updates.
- Learn and understand protocols such as TCP/IP, SIP, GTP, HTTP, Diameter, and lawful intercept standards (e.g., ETSI, CALEA).
- Collaborate with internal R&D and QA teams to ensure product readiness for deployment.
- Comply with information security standards and customer confidentiality requirements.
- Provide remote support to customer base.
Essential Competencies / Skills:
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (IP addressing, routing, firewalls, VLANs).
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and command-line usage.
- Interest in cybersecurity, telecom infrastructure, or law enforcement technologies.
- Strong problem-solving mindset and attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to customer locations (domestic and international).
- Excellent communication skills and a desire to work in a customer-facing technical role.
- Must be willing and eligible to acquire Security Clearance.
Case Management & SLA: Proficiency in managing a structured workload via a customer ticket portal; ability to categorize issues by priority (P1–P3), conduct thorough initial investigations, provide consistent customer updates, and drive issues to resolution within defined SLA timers.
Desirable (Nice to Have):
- Exposure to Wireshark or similar packet analysis tools.
- Knowledge of virtualization (VMware, KVM) or containerization (Kubernetes, Docker).
- Scripting knowledge (Bash, Python) for automation and log parsing.
- Understanding of telecom networks, mobile core (3G/4G/5G), or ISP environments.
- Familiarity with ETSI/CALEA lawful intercept standards and protocols.
- Proficiency in using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot) to enhance productivity, automate workflows, generate content, or support decision-making.
Experience and Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
