About the Role
We’re looking for a visionary and creative Head of Public Programming and Experience to help lead the next chapter in the SS Great Britain Trust’s evolution as a world-class cultural destination. In this senior role, you’ll shape and deliver our public engagement strategy, bringing maritime history to life in ways that inspire, surprise, and resonate with 21st-century audiences.
You’ll be at the creative helm of major seasonal programmes, immersive exhibitions, and innovative public experiences that deepen audience connection and extend our reach. Working collaboratively across departments and with external partners, you’ll ensure everything we offer is rooted in authentic storytelling and driven by insight, impact, and inclusion.

You’re a dynamic leader with a passion for history, a flair for storytelling, and a strong track record of delivering ambitious public programmes in cultural or visitor-facing settings. You know how to engage diverse audiences through high-quality, inclusive experiences, both onsite and online.
You’ll bring creative vision, strategic thinking, and commercial acumen, alongside the ability to influence, inspire, and lead multidisciplinary teams and partnerships. With excellent project management and communication skills, you’ll play a central role in positioning SS Great Britain as a cultural beacon for Bristol and beyond.
