The SRS Skills SVQ Centre Assessor/Verifier is responsible for assessing candidates' evidence against the standards set for Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) and verifying assessment processes to ensure compliance with Qualification Scotland's (previously SQA) standards. This dual-role position ensures the delivery of high-quality assessments and supports continuous improvement within the centre.

Responsibilities

  • Assessment: Plan, manage, and conduct assessments for candidates pursuing SVQs in Social Services & Health Care. Ensure assessments are carried out in line with Qualification Scotland's and qualification frameworks. Provide constructive feedback to candidates, guiding them towards successful completion of their qualifications.
  • Verification: Conduct internal verification to confirm consistency, reliability, and fairness of assessment decisions. Review evidence and assessment records to ensure compliance with qualification requirements. Support assessors by providing guidance and feedback to improve their assessment practices.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all assessment and verification activities meet Qualification Scotland's quality assurance standards and regulatory requirements. Monitor the effectiveness of assessment and verification processes, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Support and Development: Provide training and standardisation sessions to assessors to ensure consistency in assessment decisions. Offer ongoing support and advice to assessors and candidates. Keep up to date with developments in qualification frameworks and Qualifications Scotland guidelines.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of assessment and verification activities. Prepare detailed reports on assessment and verification outcomes for submission to the Quality Assurance Manager. Ensure timely communication and reporting to all stakeholders. Identify opportunities for improving assessment and verification processes. Participate in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge in assessment and verification practices.

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Qualifications: Relevant occupational competence in the area(s) being assessed and verified. Qualified to SVQ Level 4 or above in a relevant discipline (or equivalent). Holds a recognised Assessor qualification (e.g., L&D9DI or equivalent) and Internal Verifier qualification (e.g., L&D11 or equivalent).
  • Experience: Proven experience in assessing and verifying SVQs or similar qualifications. Demonstrable knowledge of Qualifications Scotland's quality assurance standards and procedures. Experience working in a regulated training or education environment.
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to liaise effectively with candidates, assessors, and centres. Strong analytical skills to evaluate evidence and ensure compliance with standards. Ability to manage time effectively and work to deadlines. High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards.
  • IT Competence: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with online assessment and verification systems or platforms.
  • Must Have: Previous experience as an Assessor/Verifier with Qualifications Scotland or equivalent awarding body. Familiarity with SSSC Codes of Practice and Health and Social Care Standards. Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD) in assessment and verification practices.

Additional Information

This role may require travel to candidates' place of work within the designated region. A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle may be necessary. The position may involve occasional evening or weekend work to meet deadlines or support centre activities.
