SRM Recruitment are supporting a diversified Europe-wide manager and owner of real estate assets to recruit a UK Financial Controller / UK Head of Finance in a newly created role. Of particular interest would be candidates working in real estate, and especially within a UK REIT or Fund role and have recent/current ownership of owning and delivering upon a monthly close, for a region or division. The role holder will support the roll-out of a newly implemented UK and European structure, at a divisional level and be directed to support and drive the UK operations, and leverage technology to develop a strong country Finance team. The Financial Controller will work closely with the Regional Managing Director and local asset management teams providing support on all commercial finance matters.
Main Responsibilities
- Financial Accounting, Reporting and Control
Oversight and quality review of country monthly financial close process and result, reporting a timely basis, including analytical review, to the Group Finance Team in London. Maintain close relationships with London & regional based Group Finance functions, principally Tax, Treasury, Financial Planning & Analysis, (‘FP&A’), & Finance Operations to support regional activities and ensure the highest standards are adopted. Manage adherence to UK REIT regime requirements, including compliance monitoring and production of external reporting. Oversee production and deadlines for standalone and consolidated external reporting and related compliance, including for secured listed debt financing. Leadership and development of the finance team and third-party service providers ensuring that they are correctly resourced with accounting experts and/or functional experts to deliver corporate accounting, property accounting, and tax compliance. Support the management of property accounting, corporate accounting and tax compliance service providers ensuring high levels of service, quality & timely financials, and value for money. Management of the audit relationship for all statutory and non-statutory standalone and consolidated audit requirements, and involvement in issue resolution. Technical accounting leadership in the application of the group's accounting policies (IFRS) and the various country GAAPs, ensuring where appropriate consistent application across the region.
Commercial Finance
Provide day-to-day finance support to Regional Managing Director and UK asset management team as a priority. Commercial finance support, particularly in relation to the Business Planning process and monitoring forecast performance against budget and KPIs, building a strong knowledge base with the help of Group FP&A to provide in-depth support & analysis of internal performance measurement. Oversight of the region’s annual G&A budget, ensuring across all countries a consistent approach to recording cost, reporting, and cost control. Other finance-focused commercial responsibilities include monitoring the region’s collections, bad debts, supplier payments, credit assessments, cash flow forecasts, and ad hoc analysis for Regional Managing Director. Transaction support for country acquisitions & disposals in the region.
Skills, Knowledge and Prior Experience
A professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CA) with at least 5 years of post-qualification, ideally of which some will have been gained within the real estate space (UK REIT, or fund experience). Experience of working in a large, complex, multinational organisation. Knowledge and experience of UK REIT requirements would be preferable. A driven self-starter who is able to think ‘big picture’ and work in the detail. Technically strong accountant with robust leadership skills, including excellent written & verbal communication skills.
