There is an exciting opportunity to join one of the UK’s largest house builders. The Essex Division is looking to recruit an Assistant Accountant to join the Division’s Finance team, this is a 12 month Fixed Term vacancy.
The role of the Assistant Accountant will report to the Head of Finance. The role involves assisting in the production of accurate and timely financial transactions and reports in addition to maintaining the business’s accounting records and production of the monthly management accounts.
Principal accountabilities of the role include:
- Effectively assist the Head of Finance in preparing monthly journals, management accounts and account analysis, including for audit purposes and at interim and financial year end.
- Raising, posting and reconciling sales invoices and receipts whilst managing the sales ledger.
- Ensure the weekly bank reconciliations, weekly cash forecast and movement reports are prepared accurately and submitted appropriately.
- Manage the maintenance of all banking and sales records whilst reviewing/posting (as needed) cashbook entries.
- Prepare and manage monthly reconciliations and journals for intercompany accounts by clearing accounts and request recharges.
- Ensure the purchase and subcontractor ledgers are managed and reconciled, whilst complying with the prompt payment requirements.
- Liaise with the appropriate members of the divisional finance teams to submit CIS returns cover, job cost journals.
- Oversee and work effectively with the transactional finance team and assist with purchase ledger processing when required.
- Assist with the VAT returns and monthly valuation process as needed.
- Assist in the monthly preparation of Trial Balance and management accounts.
- Assist in preparing balance sheet reconciliation and backup documentation.
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks as directed by the Divisional and Group Finance Management Teams.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Experience of working within a similar role is preferred.
- Experience of working with accountancy software. Working knowledge of COINS is desirable.
- Working towards the AAT or similar qualification would be desirable.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisation and administration skills, including good attention to detail.
- Ability to work on own as well as part of a team.
- Works effectively to deadlines and competently works on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficient IT skills along with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and the ability to adapt to new systems.
