Assistant Manager – Accounts Team

Role and Responsibilities

  • Managing all aspects of accounts preparation, including review of accounts files and financial statement disclosures and supervising offshore and in‑house staff.
  • Providing advice, guidance and constructive feedback to junior team members and updating senior managers / directors on progress.
  • Delegating tasks with clear instructions, monitoring workload and ensuring deadlines and targets are met.
  • Overseeing workflow scheduling for each job.
  • Managing client issues, supporting team members with basic client matters.
  • Undertaking accounts preparation when necessary.
  • Assisting with management reporting and other specific reporting.
  • Highlighting and managing work or project delivery issues to senior managers / directors and key staff.
  • Managing WIP and providing regular updates on expected issues / overruns.
  • Liaising with tax department to provide information for tax computations and other tax reports.
  • Liaising with other departments for seamless delivery of work and projects.
  • Applying solid technical knowledge of UK GAAP (FRS 102 1a and FRS 105).
  • Developing and maintaining technical knowledge and CPD.
  • Working efficiently on multiple jobs under time and budget constraints.
  • Highlighting delivery issues and suggesting remediation approaches.
  • Managing expectations of senior managers / directors and key staff to ensure completion within realistic timeframes.
  • Corresponding with clients to resolve queries, ensuring good relationships.
  • Carrying out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job.

Key Competencies, Skills & Qualities

  • Exceptional communication skills, verbal & written, representing the firm positively.
  • Sound technical, commercial and risk awareness with awareness of policies, procedures and processes.
  • Strong confidentiality and sensitivity to client matters.
  • High IT proficiency and ability to use relevant software.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Commitment and flexibility, delegating efficiently and taking ownership.
  • Strong relationships with managers and key staff.
  • Ability to cope in a fast‑paced environment and manage own workload.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, managing relationships internally and externally.
  • Confidence in managing junior staff, providing guidance and feedback.

Qualifications & Experience

  • ACA/ACCA qualified.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in accountancy.
  • Experience with software packages including CaseWare Accounts, QuickBooks, XERO and SAGE.
