About the Role

As a 7.5 Tonne Driver, you’ll play a key role in supporting depot and site operations, transporting, delivering and collecting temporary traffic management equipment using the largest vehicles in our fleet. This is a physically active, hands‑on role that combines professional HGV driving with equipment checks, maintenance support and depot housekeeping. You will act as the lead HGV driver at the depot, working closely with other depot teams to ensure equipment is delivered safely, on time and in full working order. You’ll normally work Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm, though flexibility is essential as hours may vary occasionally, and overtime may be available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive 7.5‑tonne HGVs to deliver and collect temporary traffic signals and traffic‑management equipment
  • Safely load and unload equipment, ensuring all loads are secure and compliant
  • Carry out pre‑use and post‑use vehicle checks, reporting defects promptly
  • Maintain vehicles to a high standard, keeping them clean, compliant and fully stocked
  • Support on‑site maintenance and inspection of traffic signals, trailers and hire fleets
  • Check SRL equipment is fit for use; quarantine and report damaged items
  • Maintain excellent health, safety and housekeeping standards at depots and customer sites
  • Follow all road traffic laws, company policies and industry regulations
  • Adhere to environmental guidelines to prevent pollution
  • Wear correct PPE and work in line with RAMS, COSHH and toolbox talks
  • Report hazards and near misses to support SRL’s “Don’t Walk By” safety culture
  • Communicate professionally with customers before and after site visits
  • Complete paperwork accurately and on time
  • Represent SRL positively through professional behaviour and appearance
  • Take part in training and development activities
  • Carry out additional tasks as directed by the Depot Manager or Supervisor

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience driving 7.5‑tonne and 3.5‑tonne vehicles
  • Full UK 7.5‑tonne HGV licence with no more than 6 penalty points
  • Strong focus on health and safety
  • Own vehicle required for travel to and from the depot
  • Able to work independently and as part of a depot team
  • Physically fit for a manual, active role
  • Organised, reliable and self‑motivated
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Comfortable using basic technology and learning new systems

Desirable

  • Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card
  • Basic electrical knowledge
