As a Control Centre Manager for REMOS you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of traffic management across regional networks. Working within a dynamic control room environment, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of a remotely operated traffic signal control centre. You will manage a team that will ensure the effective monitoring, control, and optimisation of traffic signal assets across the network, while supporting traffic flow, road safety, and network resilience. With excellent attention to detail and a professional approach, you will also be able to handle customer operational queries, administration and reporting with ease.

Instead, control is centralised in a secure control room, reducing labour and transportation costs while improving safety by minimising exposure to traffic hazards and potential abuse from road users. Working 40 hours per week, across core operating hours of 7am to 7pm, you will work in a state‑of‑the‑art control centre in Birmingham Business Park, Solihull. Responsibilities include:
- Oversee the real‑time monitoring and remote operation of traffic signal assets, including signal timings, plans, and strategies.
- Ensure safe and timely implementation of signal changes in response to incidents, congestion, roadworks, events, and emergencies.
- Act as the senior escalation point for signal‑related incidents, faults, and network impacts.
- Ensure accurate use of Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) systems or equivalent adaptive signal control technologies.
- Ensure the REMOS control centre operates effectively on a 24/7 (or defined hours) basis; some travel may be required.
- Maintain clear operational procedures for remote signal control, fault response, and escalation.
You will:
- Possess proven leadership experience in a control centre operational environment (e.g. Command Centre, Call Centre).
- Have excellent decision‑making, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Be able to remain calm and decisive in a live network environment.
- Preferably have experience with Urban Traffic Control (UTC), Urban Traffic Management Control (UTMC), SCOOT, MOVA, or equivalent systems.
- Have a background in local authority or strategic road network operations or knowledge of relevant traffic signal standards, guidance, and legislation.
- Be based in commutable distance to Birmingham Business Park, Solihull with a full UK driving licence.
