The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.

From a Cardiff base you would be required to operate on a number of projects globally and on a variety of commodities and deposit types. Part of this work will involve you travelling overseas to conduct a variety of geological tasks in the field on client’s projects, collecting data and observations. Such travel may be with colleagues or solo, dependant on experience. Consultants can expect to periodically spend extended periods in the field (up to 4 weeks), sometimes in challenging climates and conditions, often with limited communication.

Main Technical Responsibilities:

  • Following up on enquiries, writing proposals and participating in client meetings.
  • Assisting in the strategy/design and implementation of grassroots exploration projects. This will involve researching regional- and deposit-scale geology, map creation and data analysis.
  • Participating in the design and implementation of exploration and resource drilling programmes.
  • Contributing to independent technical reporting deliverables including formal reports such as NI43-101 and JORC CPRs.
  • Geodata review, processing, analysis and interpretation.
  • Project QA/QC design, implementation and analysis.
  • Prospectivity analysis and targeting exercises.
  • Assisting in the evaluation and auditing of exploration projects worldwide.
  • Preparation of GIS workspaces and 3-D geological modelling.
  • Preparation for overseas visits including Health and Safety Risk Assessments and logistics.
  • Fieldwork, which may include a diversity of tasks including, but not restricted to, geological mapping, outcrop sampling, soil and stream (geochemical) sampling, trenching, drill programme supervision, drill core logging and sampling, ground based geophysical surveys etc.
  • Managing and working with local field teams.

Essential Requirements:

  • BSc minimum in Geology, Applied Geology, Exploration Geology.
  • A good understanding of the exploration and mining industry and the role of the professional exploration geologist.
  • Previous relevant practical and operational experience gained in an international mineral exploration/mining environment.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of a number of exploration fieldwork techniques.
  • Desire to work outdoors and overseas for up to 4 weeks in remote locations.
  • Right to work and reside in the UK.
  • A valid passport and driving licence.
  • A good knowledge of ore deposit geology and field techniques.
  • Competent report writing skills.
  • Strong communication skills in both verbal and written English.
  • Experience in dealing directly with clients.

Desirable Requirements:

  • An additional tertiary level qualification, for example an MSc in a relevant subject.
  • Previous consultancy experience.
  • Uses of exploration datasets in advanced projects.
  • Experience in using GIS platforms e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS.
  • Construction and management of project databases.
  • Evidence of exposure to grassroots exploration projects including planning/scheduling, budgeting, audits and evaluations.
  • An understanding of the importance of QA/QC and international best practices in minerals exploration.
  • An understanding of international reporting codes (SAMREC, JORC, NI43-101 etc.).
  • Exposure or experience working with multispectral/remote sensing data and imagery.
  • Familiarity or experience with technical geological software, for example Leapfrog Geoâ„¢, ioGasâ„¢.
  • A second language is advantageous, particularly French, Spanish or Portuguese.
