About the Team

Large Molecule Research (LMR) discovers and engineers antibody and protein therapeutics—from early discovery through expression, characterisation, molecular engineering and biophysical profiling. Within LMR, the Molecular Design & Engineering (MDE) group focuses on antibody engineering and developability profiling to transform discovered leads into high‑quality therapeutic candidates prior to candidate selection.

The Opportunity

We’re seeking an analytical scientist to join the Developability team within MDE. This lab‑centric role profiles/characterises panels of biopharmaceuticals (e.g., antibodies, Fc‑fusions, novel modalities) for biophysical liabilities and stability, and partners with early project teams to interpret data and influence design decisions.

What you’ll do (Key Responsibilities)

  • Plan, design and execute biophysical experiments to characterise proteins (e.g., SEC/SEC‑MALS, DLS, DSF/thermal shift, chromatography‑based methods; mass spectrometry exposure advantageous).
  • Assess developability risks (aggregation/colloidal stability, thermal stability, heterogeneity) and provide clear go/no‑go or mitigation recommendations.
  • Interpret and communicate findings (written & oral) to cross‑functional, non‑expert audiences (discovery biology, protein engineering, CMC).
  • Maintain high-quality documentation in electronic lab notebooks (ELN) and author concise study reports.
  • Support method optimisation/automation (liquid handlers where applicable) and routine instrument upkeep/troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to platform improvements (buffers, stress‑test panels, data analysis templates) and to data integrity/compliance best practices.

Minimum Qualifications (Basic)

  • PhD (or 2–3 years equivalent industry/academic experience) in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Biopharmaceutical Sciences or related discipline.
  • Hands‑on experience characterising proteins using one or more of: Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Analytical Size Exclusion (SEC), Differential Scanning Fluorimetry (DSF), chromatography methods (e.g., SEC‑MALS, IEC), or mass spectrometry.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills; ability to translate data into actionable project guidance.

Nice to Have (Preferred)

  • Experience with automated liquid handlers for assay set‑up.
  • Familiarity with antibody discovery/engineering workflows and developability concepts.
  • Experience measuring protein–protein interactions by Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) or related biophysical methods (e.g., BLI, MST).
  • Exposure to formulation/stability assessments and stress studies.
