Scope of work:

Resource is required to support the analysis of NGS data for the development and validation of a biosafety adventitious agent detection method. The data is produced in the format of a csv excel file which reports detected viruses within a sample matrix. Analysts are required to follow analysis procedures to assess each virus reported and determine if the virus is a true or false positive. A level of interpretation may be required for some of the viruses reported since the standardized analysis procedures cannot account for all viruses detected. Therefore, scientific virology knowledge and experience in analysing NGS data would be beneficial. Training of the analysis procedures will be provided.

Required skills:

  • Use of excel to sort, filter and search datasets.
  • Use of NCBI databases to search and assess identified virus accession numbers.
  • Use of BLAST to assess the specificity of viral genomes.
  • Ability to follow GMP SOP’s to analyse data and record findings.

Desirable skills:

  • Virology knowledge.
  • NGS data analysis experience (bioinformatic knowledge not essential).
  • Experience with NGS process flow and lab set up.
