We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and develop both the Maintenance and Process Engineering functions within a regulated manufacturing environment. This is a handsâon leadership role, accountable for ensuring equipment reliability, minimising downtime, driving process improvements, and maintaining compliance with relevant safety and environmental standards.
Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will manage multiâskilled engineering teams and play a key role in delivering operational excellence across the site.
Key Responsibilities- Maintenance Engineering
- Lead an effective Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and calibration programme.
- Manage the site CMMS to ensure accurate planning and recording of work.
- Prioritise engineering activities in partnership with Production and Planning.
- Manage contractors, permits to work, and all H&S compliance requirements.
- Provide dataâdriven insights into machine performance and downtime reduction.
- Ensure engineering support is available across all shift patterns, including occasional outâofâhours cover.
- Complete and maintain all documentation in line with Quality and Regulatory standards.
- Process Engineering
- Oversee all Process Engineering activities and deliver continuous improvements.
- Challenge and optimise manufacturing processes to achieve efficiency targets.
- Lead site projects, validations (IQ/OQ/PQ), feasibility studies, and CAPA/NC/change control processes.
- Maintain validated production processes and support postâdesign transfer.
- Implement Lean, FMEA, Kaizen, and dataâdriven improvement practices.
- Identify new technologies, justify CAPEX, and support value stream mapping.
- Train and support Production Operators on process capability and standards.
- Facilities & Compliance
- Manage statutory inspections (lifting equipment, pressure systems, emergency lighting, etc.).
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with medical device, health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Support environmental permit requirements and site HSE initiatives.
- Maintain critical spares and engineering inventory.
- Leadership
- Motivate, mentor, and develop multiâskilled engineering teams.
- Oversee training, skills matrices, returnâtoâwork processes, and appraisals.
- Manage engineering budgets, expenditure, and monthly reporting.
- Promote a culture of quality, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Strong leadership experience managing Maintenance and Process Engineering teams.
- Background in regulated manufacturing.
- Experience with FAT/SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ, and process validation.
- Excellent understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering.
- Strong knowledge of health & safety and engineering legislation.
- Skilled in Lean tools, CI methodologies, and project management.
- Handsâon, proactive, and able to positively influence crossâfunctional teams.
- Experience with steam and chemical processes (advantageous).
