SRG Recruitment are seeking an experienced and proactive Transport Manager to lead a logistics, container haulage and 3PL specialist Transport company, built on high standards of customer care, 24/7 responsiveness and absolute reliability.

As they continue to grow, they are looking for an experienced Transport Manager to ensure the operational performance consistently matches the commercial reputation.

This is a hands-on, commercially focused leadership role for a seasoned transport professional who can take ownership of daily traffic execution, maximise fleet yield and build a proactive, accountable culture across our transport desk.

  • WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
  • Fleet Utilisation & Revenue Yield — Maximise earnings per vehicle across every 24-hour operational window, with a strong focus on backload capture and the right mix of port container drayage (Southampton, London Gateway and Felixstowe) and general haulage.
  • Operational Accountability — Take ownership of dispatch execution, working closely with the planning team to reduce avoidable errors, missed delivery windows and costly port or demurrage charges.
  • Team Leadership — Lead, coach and support the existing transport office, creating a culture of open communication, fast problem-solving and shared ownership rather than reactive or defensive working.
  • Customer Service — Act as the operational champion for key accounts, ensuring high-value customers receive exceptional, accurate execution and proactive communication.
  • Compliance & Systems — Coordinate effectively across dispatch, workshop/maintenance teams and external subcontractors, while making best use of digital planning tools and maintaining strict compliance with Operator Licence requirements.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • A valid International or National Transport Manager CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Road Haulage.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with modern Transport Management Systems (TMS), telematics and digital routing/dispatch software, with the ability to use data to improve fleet efficiency and KPI performance.
  • Strong experience managing articulated vehicle fleets across container logistics and port-connected movements, alongside general haulage.
  • Commercial awareness and a strong understanding of route profitability, return-load economics and dynamic 24-hour shift planning.
  • A collaborative, grounded leadership style that suits a family-owned business — someone who leads with respect, clear standards and practical support rather than heavy-handed bureaucracy.
  • The ability to stay calm and decisive under pressure, handling live operational issues, customer changes and port traffic while maintaining clean execution.
  • Established self-employed transport contractor/consultancy status and the ability to embed effectively within our regional site operations.

WHY JOIN US?

  • Direct access to the business owners and short lines of communication.
  • A fast-moving, supportive and commercially focused working environment.
  • A genuine opportunity to shape transport performance, fleet utilisation and team culture.
  • A senior operational position within an established, family-owned logistics business.
  • ENGAGEMENT & REWARD
  • Engagement: Independent Services Contract / Self-Employed Consultancy Agreement.
  • Remuneration: Competitive day rate / retainer reflecting senior operational experience and delivery against agreed key performance metrics.
