About Sreepur Village
Sreepur Village has been changing lives in Bangladesh since 1989. At any one time, up to 120 families are living at the village, with abused, abandoned, widowed and divorced single mothers receiving the safety, healthcare, education and vocational training they need to rebuild their lives and create a secure future for their children.
Role Summary
Volunteer Treasurer – join our UK Board and help sustain a community that gives abused and abandoned single mothers and their children in Bangladesh a safe future.
Hours: around 15‑17 per year.
Location: Remote.
Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing the financial affairs of Sreepur Village and ensuring they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice.
- Holding quarterly one‑hour review meetings with our UK Operations Manager to oversee accounting, financial controls and performance.
- Ensuring appropriate financial risk management is in place and reviewed by the board regularly.
- Introducing and maintaining financial forecasting and reporting systems, and ensuring our processes are fit for purpose.
- Acting as the main point of contact with our investment fund managers and overseeing investment policy.
- Liaising with our accountants at year end – the UK Operations Manager prepares all documentation, so your role is focused on oversight and sign‑off.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven senior‑level financial management experience, from accountancy, finance, banking, investment management or a related field; comfortable overseeing financial controls, interpreting management accounts and contributing to strategic financial planning.
- Experience working in a charity or committee environment and familiarity with Charity Commission reporting requirements; understanding the regulatory framework that governs charities in England and Wales.
- Comfortable working with a small, committed team; able to respond promptly to emails and queries and engage thoughtfully with papers and financial reports ahead of meetings.
- Collaborative, willing to share expertise generously, with clear and straightforward communication when liaising with the UK Operations Manager and our accountants.
- Understanding or interest in international development, or experience living or working in a country with a similar context to Bangladesh, is an advantage.
- Genuinely moved by the mission of Sreepur Village, a charity that gives abused, abandoned, widowed and divorced single mothers and their children a safe place to rebuild their lives.
- Ready to be an ambassador for Sreepur Village, representing the charity to donors, speaking at fundraising events and championing it in your own networks.
Commitment and Meetings
You will attend three to four trustee meetings a year, typically one hour each with one to two hours of preparation beforehand. On top of this, you will have a one‑hour quarterly meeting with our UK Operations Manager to review financial performance, discuss any concerns and plan ahead. The total time commitment settles into a manageable routine of around 15‑17 hours a year.
