MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB: The Purpose of this role is to ensure Fleet & Asset Compliance & Safety & Operational Efficiency are Maintained in line with current Legislation & Operator Licence requirements. Driver Performance Standards are Managed to a Sufficiently High Level to Deliver an Exceptional Customer Service. Empowering, Developing, Managing & Driving Forward the Performance of the Driver Team. An Integral Part of the Transport Management Team; Work Closely with all internal & external stakeholders & all business departments, collaborating & cooperating to promote & maintain an efficient fleet operation. Accountability & Responsibility for ensuring all Fleet & Transport Costs are controlled & accurately recorded. Innovate, Utilise Proactive Solutions & Techniques, Continuously Aiming to Improve Performance, Processes & Practices.

  • Liaison with: Directors, Managers, Employees, Clients, Suppliers, Visitors

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure Drivers & the Fleet deliver a best-in-class customer service; deploy appropriate controls & procedures to effectively & efficiently manage & fulfil all aspects of expected group contractual obligations, customer requirements & service levels, on time in full.
  • Maximise fleet utilisation, tonnage, load count & revenue through dynamic engagement with drivers & relevant business units, ensure capacity is maximised & profit realised through efficient loading & effective time management of driver activity.
  • Provide visible, creative, flexible, empathic & consistent leadership in order to develop HGV driver teams & build a positive driver culture within the group.
  • Understand & leverage the company’s operating systems & communication devices, ensuring that all direct reports use the systems & devices provided correctly & those systems are fully benefiting the operation.
  • Vehicle management: liaison with Drivers, Planners, Fleet & other Transport Managers, ensure vehicles operate safely, prioritising wheel security, defect & damage reporting & rectification, monitor vehicle gross weights & load safety compliance, ensure driver & vehicle legal compliance is maintained consistently & always.
  • Maximise fleet utilisation; Collaborate with Planners, Transport Managers, Fleet Manager & Workshop to Minimise Asset Downtime & VOR.
  • Report, investigate & document fully all Accidents & Incidents as per company policy & procedure, act where required & address negligence accordingly.
  • Manage the Performance of the Driver Teams to ensure optimum fleet efficiency is achieved in line with KPI’s set for each department & direct report.
  • Manage time & attendance for all direct line reports in line with company policy & procedure.
  • Financial Accountability for assigned Transport Departmental Spend & budget.
  • Fleet Compliance; Ensure the Fleet is Legal, Roadworthy & Conforms to the Required Legislative, Operator Licensing & Company Standards.
  • Utilise Chosen Technology, Systems & Platforms Thoroughly & Efficiently to Maintain Asset Compliance.
  • Ensure a Continuous Improvement Mindset is Employed to Improve & Streamline Processes & Practices, Driving Forward Change & Presenting Ideas & Suggestions that Promote Growth & Efficiency within the Business.
  • Attend Management Meetings & Events as Required: Present Agreed KPI’s, Updates, Cost Critical Events, Provide Justification for Departmental Spending.
  • Actively Contribute to the Transport Team Effort, build a Strong Culture of Collaboration, Cooperation, Supporting other Team Members & Head of Transport.
  • Communicate Effectively, Clearly, Respectfully with All Team Members, Colleagues, Internal & External Contacts, Customers & Business Partners, maintain Productive working relationships with all Personnel & Departments.
  • Act in Accordance with the Companies Health & Safety Policies, Procedures & Standards, Maintain Compliance with Current Legislation & Environmental Regulations, highlight any issues appropriately, ensure knowledge is kept up to date with any changes to industry standards, regulations & statutes.
  • Operator Licence Named Transport Manager & CPC Holder for the Group.
  • Comply with Company Target Setting, Goals & Quality Standards.
  • To Perform any other duties required by the business as directed by Senior Management.

KPI:

  • Minimal Asset Downtime – Achieved through proactive approach to rectifying Mechanical Downtime & Defects, active management of Driver Absence with proactive approach to providing Holiday cover & sufficient resource.
  • Driver Hours & Working Time – Ensure Clocking Variances from contract are identified & action taken to address, Driver Infringements are managed & required action taken to improve.
  • Manage & Share Driver KPI’s; Focus on Behavior, Performance: Specifically Load Count, & Tonnage - per driver, per truck.
  • Present Departmental Performance & Costs to Head of Transport - Monthly – In Line with Set Budget Criteria (TBC).
  • Other KPI’s as Set & Directed by the Head of Transport.
