Are you a DevOps Engineer who wants to move beyond maintaining infrastructure and play a key role in building a modern platform from the ground up? I'm working with a fast growing AI startup that is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join its engineering team and take ownership of some genuinely interesting infrastructure challenges. The business is embarking on a fresh Kubernetes implementation, so this is an opportunity to get involved at a point where your technical decisions will have a real impact on how the platform is built, deployed and operated.

What will you be doing? You'll be responsible for helping design, build and continuously improve the infrastructure and deployment ecosystem supporting the wider engineering function. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, implementing and maintaining scalable, secure and highly available infrastructure
  • Taking a role in the implementation and ongoing development of Kubernetes
  • Working extensively with AWS to build and operate cloud infrastructure
  • Developing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
  • Building, improving and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines
  • Automating repetitive operational processes and reducing manual intervention
  • Supporting containerised workloads using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Monitoring infrastructure and application performance and improving overall reliability
  • Improving security, resilience and operational best practices across the platform
  • Contributing to the evolution of the organisation's Platform Engineering capability

Core technologies: Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, Infrastructure, Docker, CI/CD. Experience with microservices would also be highly valuable! 5 years experience + would be preferable. We're particularly interested in engineers who have a Platform Engineering mindset - people who think about how to create reusable, reliable tooling and infrastructure that makes life easier for development teams.

How to prepare for a job interview at SR2

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If SR2 uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
