Requirements

  • Experience working within secure government environments
  • Active SC clearance
  • Familiarity with GDS Service Standards or similar user-centred design frameworks
  • Proven experience as a User Researcher within Agile digital delivery environments
  • Strong experience delivering both discovery (generative) and evaluative user research
  • Experience planning and conducting interviews, workshops, usability testing and other research activities
  • Ability to synthesise research into personas, user journeys and actionable recommendations
  • Experience communicating findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver qualitative and quantitative research activities across the service lifecycle
  • Identify user behaviours, pain points and opportunities
  • Translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights that influence design decisions, product backlogs and future service improvements
  • Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, Developers and Delivery Managers
  • Facilitate workshops and research playback sessions
  • Engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Advocate for user-centred design within an agile delivery environment

We are recruiting for an experienced User Researcher to join a multidisciplinary digital team delivering user-centred services within a high-profile UK Government programme. This is an outside IR35, 3-month contract offering £400-£500 per day on a hybrid basis in Portsmouth, with three days per week onsite. Active SC clearance is essential due to the secure nature of the work and the fast turnaround required. We work in a collaborative environment focused on shaping digital products and keeping user needs at the heart of service design and delivery.
