Contract Technical Author – Aerospace / UAV 6-month contract | Extension likely | Hybrid (3 days onsite) | Near Salisbury

This contract exists because this business is doing something new. You’ll be brought in to create the foundations for how complex UAV platforms are documented, supporting both customers in the field and internal engineering teams as the organisation scales.

You’ll work inside a high-performing aerospace SME that designs, builds and manufactures its own aircraft in-house. Engineers, manufacturing and support sit side-by-side, giving you real access to the platform - not just documents and assumptions.

What you’ll deliver:

  • System Operating and Maintenance Manuals
  • Training courseware and supporting publications
  • Clear, structured documentation aligned to S1000D and STE
  • Practical ways of working so future authoring requests can be delivered with ease

Why this contract stands out:

  • Greenfield authoring challenge — you’re shaping the approach, not maintaining legacy docs
  • Hands-on access to the platform, with time onsite encouraged
  • Fast decision-making in an SME that prototypes, iterates and improves quickly
  • Standards used properly, where safety, airworthiness and clarity matter

What will make you a fit:

  • Experience authoring technical publications in aerospace, defence or UAV environments
  • Confident with S1000D, STE and modular documentation
  • Comfortable working independently and close to engineering teams
  • Eligible for Security Clearance (or already hold it)

Initial 6 months, strong likelihood of extension to 12. Hybrid working: 3 days onsite, flexible hours. Day rate open to discussion — the right expertise is the priority.
