A growing SaaS business is looking for a hands-on Technical Lead to join one of its product engineering squads. You will act as the technical anchor for your squad, setting direction on architecture, engineering standards, system design, delivery quality, and modern development practice.
The engineering environment is collaborative, product-focused, and cloud-native, with autonomous squads working closely with Product and Platform Engineering. A major part of the role will involve helping the team adopt agentic AI and AI-assisted development practices responsibly. This is not about casual experimentation with AI tools; the business is looking for someone who is already using modern AI tooling as part of their engineering workflow and can help others do the same while maintaining strong engineering fundamentals.
Ensuring security, scalability, availability, performance, and cost are considered throughout the development lifecycle. Working closely with Product to balance delivery, technical debt, and long-term platform quality. Helping define responsible team practices around agentic AI and AI-assisted software delivery. Supporting a high-quality engineering culture across the wider technology function.
You will likely be a Technical Lead, Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Lead Software Engineer, or very strong Senior Engineer who has already taken ownership of technical direction within a product engineering team.
- Strong backend engineering experience.
- Experience building enterprise-grade SaaS, platform, or real-time data products.
- Strong cloud experience across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Good understanding of cloud deployment, security, cost optimisation, performance, and scalability.
- Real experience using AI-assisted or agentic development tools as part of day-to-day engineering.
- Java / Kotlin, TypeScript, Cloud-native engineering.
- Relational databases, SQL, and data modelling.
- DevOps practices and production ownership.
- A background in functional programming would be a strong plus.
- Experience in regulated, data-heavy, or high-availability SaaS environments would also be beneficial, but is not essential.
You should be able to talk confidently about architecture, trade-offs, cloud design, delivery risk, AI tooling, engineering standards, and how to move technical ideas through to real production outcomes. This is an opportunity to join a high-performing SaaS engineering environment at a point where the business is investing heavily in modern engineering practice, cloud-native delivery, and responsible agentic AI adoption.
