An innovative AI-first technology company is looking for a Staff Applied Scientist to take a technical leadership role in building advanced machine learning and NLP solutions. The company develops cutting-edge platforms that leverage large language models and machine learning to answer complex research questions through intelligent search and automated workflows. As the organisation continues to scale its AI capabilities, they are looking for someone to lead and shape the technical direction of their data and NLP initiatives.
The Role
As a Staff Applied Scientist, you will act as the technical lead for data and NLP initiatives, driving improvements across search, machine learning models, and AI-driven workflows. Responsibilities include:
- Improving search performance (precision and recall)
- Optimising search algorithms to deliver fast and accurate results
- Designing and implementing agentic AI workflows powered by LLMs
- Building and maintaining scalable data pipelines
- Leading technical decision-making across ML and NLP projects
Requirements
- 8+ years of commercial engineering and/or data science experience
- Experience in technical leadership or leading ML initiatives
- Strong Python programming skills
- Commercial experience with machine learning
- Experience working in Natural Language Processing (NLP)
- Experience training ML models using TensorFlow and/or PyTorch
- Experience with search databases (e.g. Elasticsearch, OpenSearch)
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS)
- Willingness to work 3 days per week onsite in London
