Engineering Manager | Defence | SC Cleared Hybrid (Portsmouth) 2-3 days a week £SR2 is working with a long-standing delivery partner on a major public sector programme, supporting the delivery of modern, secure, cloud-native capabilities into a critical Defence environment. We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing software engineering function across a large-scale, multi-workstream programme. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic oversight, shaping engineering standards, mentoring teams, and driving high-quality delivery across complex systems. You will play a key role in a flagship Defence initiative, working closely with stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure digital services in line with MOD standards. Due to the nature of the work, active SC clearance is required and applicants must be single-British passport holders . Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering function, setting standards and best practices across delivery Own engineering strategy across multiple Defence workstreams, aligning to wider programme and business goals Drive DevOps maturity, CI/CD adoption, and engineering excellence across teams Mentor engineers and team leads, building capability and improving performance across the function Proven experience leading software engineering teams in complex, multi-system environments Strong background in cloud-native development across AWS or Azure Deep understanding of modern engineering practices including DevOps, CI/CD, TDD, and secure coding Background in hands-on engineering or technical delivery Type: Permanent Start: ASAP Interested in applying for the role of Engineering Manager ?
