Head of Centre of Excellence (CoE) for AI Governance
SR2 is supporting a major public sector transformation programme and are looking for an experienced Head of Centre of Excellence to establish and lead an AI Governance CoE. This is a strategic leadership role where you'll shape how AI governance is embedded across a large, complex organisation, ensuring robust oversight whilst enabling innovation and delivery.
Role:
- Establish and scale an AI Governance Centre of Excellence
- Design the CoE operating model, governance structure and service catalogue
- Create governance frameworks, controls and oversight mechanisms for AI and emerging technologies
- Build executive sponsorship and secure buy-in from senior stakeholders across multiple functions
- Lead organisational change and drive adoption of governance practices
- Define CoE services including:
- Demand intake
- Project triage and prioritization
- Portfolio oversight
- Design and architecture assurance
- Engagement models with delivery teams
- Develop strategic recommendations for senior leadership
- Shape organisational design, workforce planning and operating models
- Create practical governance that supports delivery rather than slows it down
Requirements:
- Significant leadership experience establishing or scaling Centres of Excellence, governance functions or similar capability hubs
- Experience within AI, Automation, Data, Digital or Cloud governance environments
- Strong stakeholder management skills with experience operating in complex political environments
- Track record influencing senior executives and securing organisational buy-in
- Experience designing governance frameworks and embedding controls into delivery processes
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with practical implementation
- Experience developing operating models, governance structures and adoption strategies
