We're supporting a major public sector digital programme looking to bring in an experienced AWS DevOps Engineer to help deliver secure, scalable cloud infrastructure across a complex national platform environment. This role would suit someone who enjoys working in modern DevOps environments, partnering closely with engineering teams to improve deployment capability, platform resilience and operational maturity across cloud-native systems.
The Role
You'll play a key role in designing, building and supporting AWS-based infrastructure, helping to drive automation, CI/CD maturity and platform reliability across multiple environments. The work involves supporting containerised applications, infrastructure-as-code, monitoring, security and deployment best practices within a highly regulated delivery environment. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll be expected to contribute technically from day one, working closely with developers, architects and delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and manage AWS cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support automated deployments
- Support containerised workloads using Kubernetes/EKS
- Improve platform observability, monitoring and alerting capabilities
- Implement secure networking and cloud security best practices
- Support operational stability, incident resolution and platform optimisation
- Work closely with development teams to streamline deployment and release processes
- Contribute to platform automation and engineering standards across the wider environment
Essential
- Strong commercial AWS experience across core cloud services
- Proven background in DevOps or Platform Engineering roles
- Experience with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning
- Strong Kubernetes/EKS experience
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Jenkins
- Strong scripting/automation skills using Python, Bash or similar
- Experience with Docker and containerised application deployments
- Knowledge of monitoring and logging tooling such as CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus or ELK
- Good understanding of cloud networking, IAM and security best practices
- Experience working within highly regulated or enterprise-scale environments

- Experience with event-driven or microservice architectures
- Exposure to Kafka or streaming platforms
- Understanding of security and compliance frameworks within cloud environments
- Experience supporting high-availability, mission-critical systems
