We are supporting a major defence programme seeking an experienced Combat Systems or Autonomous Systems Engineer to support future Royal Navy capability development and concept activity. This role will focus on the development of advanced naval concepts, autonomous platforms, disaggregated sensing and effect systems, and future combat system architecture within highly complex maritime environments.

The Role

  • Support concept and pre-concept development activities across future naval platforms and autonomous capabilities, helping shape next-generation maritime defence solutions.
  • Provide systems engineering expertise across combat systems, sensors, effectors, autonomous platforms and modular capability development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support naval combat systems and autonomous systems concept development.
  • Contribute to future Royal Navy capability and platform design activities.
  • Work across disaggregated and modular SENSE, DECIDE, CONNECT and EFFECT capabilities.
  • Translate customer requirements into engineering and architectural solutions.
  • Support the development of autonomous and hybrid platform concepts.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports and engineering outputs.
  • Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams and defence stakeholders.

Required Experience

  • 7+ years' experience within Combat Systems, Autonomous Systems, Sensors, Effectors or Combat Management Systems.
  • Experience working within naval or maritime defence environments.
  • Experience supporting concept or pre-concept engineering activities.
  • Strong understanding of UxVs, autonomous platforms and modern naval technologies.
  • Experience contributing to systems architecture and engineering design solutions.
  • Ability to produce clear, structured technical documentation.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Experience with adaptable ship design or STUFT concepts.
  • Understanding of MoD Systems of Systems Approach (SOSA).
  • Experience working within large multi-company defence programmes.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Chartered status preferred, although equivalent experience will be considered.
