Naval Combat Systems / Autonomous Systems Engineering Consultant (Defence & Maritime)

SR2 are partnering with an exciting defence and maritime client supporting the development of future naval capability, autonomous platforms, and next-generation combat systems. We are seeking an experienced Naval Combat Systems or Autonomous Systems Engineering specialist to provide strategic engineering expertise across concept and pre-concept activities.

The Opportunity

You will work alongside a high-profile defence programme helping shape future Royal Navy capability through innovative approaches to combat systems, autonomous platforms, sensors, effectors and command & control architectures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead combat systems and/or autonomous systems engineering activities
  • Support concept and pre-concept naval platform development
  • Translate capability requirements into engineering and architectural solutions
  • Assess future maritime technologies including UxVs and autonomous platforms
  • Develop innovative approaches to sensing, connectivity and effect delivery
  • Evaluate disaggregated and modular combat capability concepts
  • Produce high-quality technical reports, recommendations and presentations
  • Collaborate across multi-company stakeholder environments
  • Support systems engineering activities aligned to defence standards

We Are Looking For

  • Chartered Engineer (or equivalent experience capable of achieving Chartership)
  • Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • 7+ years' experience within Combat Systems, Autonomous Systems, Sensors, Effectors or Combat Management Systems
  • Experience leading engineering teams within naval or defence environments
  • Strong knowledge of autonomous platforms, UxVs and maritime innovation
  • Experience translating customer requirements into technical solutions
  • Knowledge of adaptable ship design, STUFT concepts or future naval capability development
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and technical communication skills

Desirable Experience

  • Sensors, Effectors and C2 systems expertise
  • Disaggregated SENSE, DECIDE, CONNECT and EFFECT architectures
  • MoD Systems of Systems Approach (SOSA)
  • Large-scale maritime or shipbuilding programmes
  • Multi-company project environments
  • Strong presentation and report writing skills
