The opportunity
We’re supporting a high-growth technology consulting business in the search for a Business Development Director to help accelerate growth across the Defence and National Security market. This is a senior, strategic hire focused on identifying and shaping major opportunities, building trusted customer relationships, and converting complex digital transformation programmes across a highly nuanced defence landscape. The role would suit someone with strong sector credibility, a commercial growth mindset, and a track record of winning substantial, strategically important work.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and execute growth strategy across the Defence market
- Build, qualify and convert a strong pipeline of new business opportunities
- Lead the pursuit of complex, multi-million-pound opportunities from early campaign stage through to close
- Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across Defence and National Security
- Shape compelling commercial propositions and support deal strategy / negotiations
- Identify partnership opportunities and strengthen market presence across the wider defence ecosystem
- Work closely with internal leadership and delivery teams to align growth strategy with capability
- Support and mentor more junior business development colleagues where needed
Requirements:
- Strong track record in Defence business development
- Experience winning large, complex, multi-year opportunities
- Strong understanding of Defence procurement routes, commercial models, and customer structures
- Ability to engage, influence and build credibility with senior stakeholders
- Background in technology, digital transformation, consulting, or digital services
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to identify, qualify and prioritise the right opportunities
- Well-developed relationship-building skills and market awareness across Defence / National Security
