User Researcher - NHS Screening Services
Inside IR35: £425 per day
Hybrid, field research across Manchester, Hull and Taunton sites
ASAP start - 6 month rolling
We are recruiting an experienced User Researcher to support a complex NHS screening service. This is a detailed, hands-on role involving qualitative research with patients, clinicians and operational teams, including observation of live breast-screening appointments.
The research will cover sensitive and emotionally complex health topics. Due to the nature of the clinical environment and the need to observe breast-screening appointments, this role carries a genuine occupational requirement for the postholder to be a woman.
Role responsibilities
- Plan and conduct qualitative research with patients, clinicians and NHS service teams.
- Observe live screening appointments and research how services operate in practice.
- Explore complex user needs, behaviours and barriers across the screening pathway.
- Analyse detailed research findings and translate evidence into clear recommendations.
- Support difficult product and service decisions with robust user evidence.
- Communicate findings confidently to senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
- Conduct regular field research at NHS sites across Hull, Taunton and Manchester.
- Maintain appropriate sensitivity, confidentiality and safeguarding throughout the research process.
Key experience and requirements
- Strong hands-on user research experience within NHS or public-sector health services.
- Experience researching complex live services, ideally involving screening, clinical pathways or patient-facing care.
- Strong qualitative research skills across interviews, observation and contextual research.
- Experience working with sensitive health topics or users in emotionally complex circumstances.
- Ability to analyse detailed evidence and support challenging service or product decisions.
- Confident stakeholder engagement, research playback and communication with senior audiences.
- Willingness to travel regularly for in-person research, including occasional overnight stays in Hull.
- Active SC clearance would be beneficial but is not essential.
