Would you enjoy working for new and established clients in a collaborative team environment where your contribution is valued? Then this could be the role for you.
Our Firm Squire Patton Boggs is one of the world's strongest integrated law firms, committed to providing insight at the point where law, business and government meet. We deliver commercially focused business solutions to a diverse mix of clients, from long‑established leading corporations to emerging businesses, start‑up visionaries and sovereign nations. With over 1,500 lawyers spanning more than 40 offices across four continents, the firm is renowned for its local connections and global influence, delivering comprehensive legal services across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and Latin America. In the UK, we have offices in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and London. The firm is committed to promoting a collaborative and supportive working environment.
Our Team Our multi‑award winning Pensions team has over 40 dedicated lawyers working across the pensions arena. We are one of the largest and most experienced pure pensions teams in the UK and highly regarded by our clients – this provides our associates with a broad variety of work. We also work together with pensions, tax, investment and employment colleagues across our global network. Our clients include pension fund trustees and sponsoring employers and, more unusually, those responsible for managing local government pension funds. We advise in relation to ongoing pensions schemes and those entering their end game (typically buy‑ins/outs for DB schemes and bulk transfer for DC schemes) and increasingly in relation to master trusts and other new pension arrangements. We have the support of three dedicated professional support lawyers and actively participate in the work of industry bodies such as the Association of Pensions Lawyers (APL) and the Society of Pensions Professionals (SPP). Junior lawyers are provided with a wide variety of training opportunities (internal and external) and fully supported in their professional development with active supervision and significant levels of client contact. Our knowledge is up‑to‑the‑minute, allowing us to keep our lawyers and our clients ahead of the game on any new developments.
Our Opportunity You will be working with well‑respected partners and will be part of a friendly team that encourages skills development and growth both professionally and personally via exposure to a broad range of high‑quality work and extensive opportunities for client contact. Pensions law provides the satisfaction of helping to improve individuals' financial security in retirement whilst interacting with businesses at the highest level, as pensions is often one of their most material liabilities. The work combines a rewarding mix of technical, financial and commercial skills, along with the opportunity to make a difference in members' lives – a rare mix in City legal practices.
You We are looking for an enthusiastic lawyer looking to take the next step in their career in pensions law. Ideally 3‑6 PQE, you will be technically strong and have demonstrable pensions experience, preferably including legal aspects of pensions investments and governance and/or buy‑in/outs. You will be driven and motivated, with a commitment to achieving client success and satisfaction.
