Currently, we are undertaking the Diamond-II upgrade, which will enhance our capabilities with new machines, beamlines, optics, detectors, and computing, producing an even more brilliant light source at higher energies. About The Role We are seeking a Senior / Principal Personnel Safety Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for the design, development, commissioning, and operational support of high integrity Personnel Safety Systems that protect personnel from hazards associated with Beamlines and Accelerators at Diamond. Key Responsibilities Applying technical expertise on active safety systems to ensure compliance with safety integrity levels. Managing stakeholders throughout all project safety system lifecycle stages, including requirements, progress, and operational correctness. Developing and maintaining safety system design processes that comply with international safety standards and regulations. Candidate Requirements Applicants should hold a relevant STEM degree and a recognized high-level functional safety certification (e.g., TUV or equivalent). You will demonstrate experience in: Working with standards such as EN61508, EN61511, and BS62061. Fault tree analysis, FMEA, and hazard identification in high-energy physics environments. Specifying, creating, and verifying safety hardware for safety systems. For the Principal level, additional experience includes: Full lifecycle management of safety systems in industrial or scientific settings. Knowledge of radiation safety regulations, legislation, and standards. Modern software techniques for real-time control and signal processing. Managing software/system configurations and ensuring system quality and reliability. Additional Information Candidates should possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills. Willingness to work occasional overtime, travel within the UK and abroad is required.
