About The Role
We now have an opportunity for a Rigging and Facilities Support Technician for a 4-year fixed term contract. To provide hands on support to the IFM Building Fabric team in the day-to-day operation of lifting activities within, and building fabric maintenance, repairs and upgrades to the Synchrotron Building, Diamond House and other external or auxiliary areas. Full training will be provided in all aspects of the role including health and safety, working at height, and all aspects of crane operations and rigging.
Responsibilities – Rigging Support
- Assisting the existing team of Crane Operators/Riggers in the safe use of the site overhead cranes and implementation of correct lifting techniques.
- Acquiring knowledge and experience of the legal and safety requirements using correct methodology and selecting appropriate equipment for all lifts associated with projects, maintenance and breakdown activities essential for operational needs.
- Assisting in the operation of the overhead cranes.
- Assisting in the safe set up and operation of air-skates and hydraulic jacks, compressors and manifolds associated with projects, maintenance and breakdown activities essential for operational needs.
- Developing skills to undertake the safe operation of forklifts.
- Assisting in keeping records up to date for inspection of equipment.
Facilities Support
- Building fabric maintenance, surveys, inspections, fault diagnosis, problem solving and necessary upgrades.
- Suspended ceiling repairs and inspections.
- Fire barrier and Steelwork repairs and inspections.
- Building cladding repairs and inspections.
- Wall and roofing systems repairs and inspections (including water ingress investigation and repair).
About You
You will have the ability to work on your own initiative, use hand tools and be able to work at height. You will take a hands-on approach in the assistance of building fabric maintenance and rigging, be prepared to learn new skills and have a flexible approach to working conditions/environment. You will demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels.
