Our client is a fast-paced and continually growing Construction business located at the Manchester side of Bolton. They are seeking a talented Bookkeeper to work in a busy office within a construction yard environment. The successful applicant can be trained in all aspects of the business and company ethos, though knowledge of CIS returns and management of the subcontractor timesheets would be highly advantageous. 3-5 years+ of Bookkeeping experience and a user of Xero is essential.

Benefits and Hours:

  • Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum
  • Hours: Monday to Friday - 8am, 8.30am or 9am starts available. Full Time / Office Based.

Principal Responsibilities/Accountabilities of the Bookkeeper role:

  • Managing Timesheets and Subcontractor payroll details to pass over to the company accountant
  • Processing Invoices, overseeing the Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger and Credit Control duties
  • CIS Returns, VAT Returns
  • Assisting with month-end and year-end closing procedures
  • Preparing financial reports for the Management Team
  • Dealing with accounts queries with confidence - has the support of an external accountant
  • Liaison with suppliers, customers and subcontractors
  • As a small office team, there will be additional administrative tasks and support with answering the telephone

Skills and Experience required:

  • Excellent standard of Xero is required. The company has recently switched over to Xero from Sage
  • Good computer literacy - experience with MS Office is essential - Word & Excel
  • Experience with construction clients or subcontractors is a definite advantage
  • Ability to work in an office with 'banter', though equally be able to focus and hold strong attention to detail which is essential
  • Aptitude for numeracy and analysis
  • Comfortable working in a busy construction office environment with an outside yard and lots of subcontractors in/out
  • Enthusiasm and assertiveness for working through problematic situations
  • Team player comfortable taking direction and guidance
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - both verbal and written
  • Willing to use initiative to resolve problems and identify improvements
  • Strong character able to work in a dynamic environment
  • Flexible and comfortable with growth and change
  • Bookkeeping: 3 - 5 years (preferred) / Construction: (preferred not essential)
