Job Overview / Introduction
The Cost Modelling Manager is responsible for leading a team of consultants delivering large, complex client engagements that identify, design, and implement creative optimisation and transformation solutions for globally established organisations. Working with managers, senior consultants and consultants across individual programmes and internally to develop lasting relationships, and to provide data-driven insight through cost estimating and modelling techniques.
Primary Roles And Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of client engagements, including engagement planning, budgeting, mobilisation, deliverable design, and content.
- Provide leadership in the design, build, and deployment of cost modelling and estimating products, ensuring they align with strategic priorities and deliver measurable business value.
- Act as a subject matter authority on all aspects of cost estimating and modelling, bridging technical and commercial considerations to deliver value for money.
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis to identify operational inefficiencies and areas for improvement within the organisation.
- Develop and implement data-driven strategies to optimise processes and enhance overall efficiency.
- Utilise various analytical tools and methodologies to extract insights from large datasets and present actionable recommendations to management.
- Identifying and analysing trends and patterns in client cost data to anticipate potential issues or opportunities.
- Work with senior clients to ensure buy-in for deliverables.
- Programme manages delivery teams to ensure on-time, quality delivery of work with engagement risk identified and elevated early.
- Participate in business development by developing and maintaining relationships with key clients, identifying opportunities, leading the development of proposals and bids, and contributing to the proposal pricing strategies.
- Develop new propositions, methodologies and thought leadership.
- Actively participate in staff recruitment and retention activities and provide leadership and support for delivery teams and staff.
- Support the internal staffing process.
- Encourage effective working in diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution.
- Conduct performance reviews and annual appraisals for performance appraisees.
- Lead, coach and mentor team members.
Secondary Roles and Responsibilities
- Commit to continuous development by supporting the organisation of team events, training sessions and recruitment activities.
- Carry out other duties as specified by Senior Management and the Digital Capability Lead.
- Actively participate and support Data and AI-related BD activities, such as Bids and framework applications.
Essential β Knowledge, Skills, & Experience
- Degree-level qualification
- 5+ years of professional experience working in a consulting environment
- Deep knowledge of delivering complex transformation, strategy or performance excellence programmes.
- Strong working knowledge of UK Government procurement lifecycles.
- Lead the design, build and maintenance of complex Life Cycle Cost (LCC) models.
- Experience utilising statistical modelling techniques and industry-recognised toolsets.
- Experience in managing and influencing executive-level internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work in multi-disciplinary environments.
- Advanced MS Excel, risk modelling, communication, presentation and IT skills.
- Security clearance is required. The level of clearance needed is a security check.
Desirable
- Industry recognised professional qualifications within a related field (ICEEA, ACostE).
- Aware of Aqua Book, HM Treasury Green Book and JSP 507 compliance for cost modelling.
- Experience as a cost consultant in DE&S, CAAS, wider MOD or public sector organisation.
