Our Technology Services department provides specialist technology support (software engineering, data analysis and engineering, architecture) to clients operating in fast‑moving global environments. The team is composed of technology subject matter experts who report to a manager and generate insight, analysis and recommendations that underpin client engagements and internal corporate projects. Whether working collaboratively or independently, each consultant is expected to engage with clients, both on‑site and remotely, to solve their most complex and high‑impact business challenges.

The Software Engineer reports to the Head of Software Engineering and will work on both client and internal projects. As a Software Engineer specialising in Azure services and Enterprise Integration Patterns, you will play a key role in designing and implementing cloud services and integration patterns that underpin our clients’ supply chain and operational systems. You will work both independently and as part of multi‑disciplinary teams, collaborating closely with consultants, architects, and client stakeholders. You will be expected to support solution design, lead technical implementation, troubleshoot complex integration issues, and ensure robust, scalable, and secure cloud services.

Primary Roles And Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deploy cloud‑native applications and integrations using Microsoft Azure services.
  • Build and maintain solutions using Azure Service Bus, including queues, topics, subscriptions, and message routing.
  • Implement event‑driven and microservices architectures that support high‑availability business operations.
  • Develop APIs, functions, and automation workflows using Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and related services.
  • Collaborate with solution architects to refine technical designs and align solutions with business goals.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across distributed cloud environments.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, design patterns, and best‑practice guidance.
  • Work on‑site with clients when required, providing hands‑on support and technical expertise.
  • Support the Test manager on all testing requirements within area of responsibility.
Secondary Roles and Responsibilities
  • Support business development by contributing to the development of proposals and tenders.
  • Commit to continuous development by supporting the innovation of our offerings and the organisation of team events, training sessions and recruitment activities.
  • Contribute to the development of Squarcle's propositions and internal knowledge base by sharing insights from client engagements.
  • Stay abreast of the latest technologies and their applications within the supply chain and Defence sectors.
  • Champion an inclusive team culture where diverse contributions are recognised and valued.
  • Carry out other duties as specified by Engagement Directors and Performance Managers.
Knowledge, Skills And Experience (Essential)
  • 5+ years in software/integration engineering, with at least 2+ years building integrations in Azure or equivalent cloud environments.
  • Proven experience using Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, Azure Event Management.
  • Proven track record in delivering Enterprise Integration Platforms or ESB solutions at scale.
  • Experience in multi‑system data integration (ERP, WMS, DMS, TMS, CRM, etc.).
  • Knowledge of API Gateway and API lifecycle management.
  • Demonstrable experience implementing secure, governed, and observable integration solutions.
  • Exposure to cross‑functional collaboration with architects, DevOps engineers, and service management teams.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and clients.
  • Collaboration: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Problem‑solving: Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Continuous Learning: Willingness to stay updated with the latest technologies and industry trends in cloud computing and DevOps.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery frameworks (Scrum, Kanban).

  • Understanding of data governance and metadata management principles.
  • Experience with event‑driven and microservices architectures.
  • Exposure to Power Platform integrations (Power Automate, Dataverse).
  • Familiarity with Service Virtualisation and test automation tools (Postman, SoapUI).
  • Familiarity with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), containerised integration components, or Function Apps.
  • Knowledge of the ITIL Framework.
  • Experience working in Supply Chain, Engineering or Construction.
