Bristol, UK (Hybrid) Radiodetection, part of SPX Technologies, is looking for an experienced Principal Software Architect to shape the future of its connected software ecosystem across firmware, cloud, desktop, and mobile platforms. This is a high-impact role focused on improving architectural consistency, modernising legacy systems, and driving scalable IoT-style solutions across a complex engineering environment. You will work closely with engineering leadership and domain teams to define technical direction, align technologies, and ensure systems evolve in a scalable and maintainable way.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Define end-to-end architecture across embedded devices, cloud, mobile, and desktop
  • Drive architectural standards and major technical decisions
  • Reduce technical debt and support legacy modernisation
  • Align teams around scalable engineering practices
  • Validate ideas through lightweight prototyping and experimentation
  • Support the adoption of modern tooling, including AI-assisted development

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in software engineering with significant architecture experience
  • Strong background in distributed/cloud-connected systems
  • Experience integrating hardware or embedded systems with software platforms
  • IoT, telecoms, or connected device experience preferred
  • Strong stakeholder management and technical leadership skills
