Bristol, UK (Hybrid) Radiodetection, part of SPX Technologies, is looking for an experienced Principal Software Architect to shape the future of its connected software ecosystem across firmware, cloud, desktop, and mobile platforms. This is a high-impact role focused on improving architectural consistency, modernising legacy systems, and driving scalable IoT‑style solutions across a complex engineering environment.
You will work closely with engineering leadership and domain teams to define technical direction, align technologies, and ensure systems evolve in a scalable and maintainable way.
What You'll Be Doing
- Define end‑to‑end architecture across embedded devices, cloud, mobile, and desktop
- Drive architectural standards and major technical decisions
- Reduce technical debt and support legacy modernisation
- Align teams around scalable engineering practices
- Validate ideas through lightweight prototyping and experimentation
- Support the adoption of modern tooling, including AI‑assisted development
What We're Looking For
- Experience in software engineering with significant architecture experience
- Strong background in distributed/cloud‑connected systems
