Job Summary

We’re looking for a hands‑on, people‑focused finance professional to provide key support to the UK Finance Controller and lead our Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams.

This role combines month‑end, compliance, and process improvement with transactional finance leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management accounts & reporting
  • Assist with month‑end close, including reconciliations, journals, and reporting.
  • Provide accurate AR/AP, tax, and statutory reporting data for management and external purposes.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and other ad‑hoc financial analysis.
  • Manage fixed asset register and perform timely asset verification.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and compliance.
  • VAT, tax, statutory & audit compliance
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns in accordance with HMRC requirements.
  • Ensure all VAT transactions are accurately recorded and supported.
  • Assist with corporation tax reporting and liaise with external advisors when required.
  • Support the preparation of statutory accounts and ensure compliance with accounting standards and filing deadlines.
  • Act as a key contact during internal and external audits, preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to auditor queries.
  • Transactional finance
  • Manage and develop the AR and AP teams, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Oversee customer invoicing, credit control, supplier payments, and reconciliation processes.
  • Maintain strong internal controls across transactional finance.
  • Staff expenses & other duties
  • Oversee processing of staff expense claims, ensuring compliance with company policies and HMRC rules.
  • Ensure timely reimbursement and correct accounting treatment of expenses.
  • Perform ad hoc duties as required

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant and varied accounting experience
  • Experience of working to deadlines
  • Proven experience in AR and AP, including mangement or supervisory responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of VAT rules and experience preparing VAT returns.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting systems.
  • Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA), AAT qualified or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with wider tax reporting beyond VAT.
  • Experience in supporting internal and external audits.
  • Experience driving process improvements within a finance function.
