Job SummarySPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Senior RF Design Engineer for CommTech (Enterprise Control Systems & TCI), you will play a crucial role in New Product Introduction (NPI) and Sustaining Engineering for products within our Battlespace, Datalinks and SMS markets. You will join a small dynamic team continually designing and developing worldâclass products. This is an opportunity to work in a fastâpaced but rewarding environment on RF Technologies across several exciting markets including defense and aviation.
Job Responsibilities
RF Design including but not limited to:
System Architecture (RF)
RF Simulation
Schematic capture, PCB Layout and Footprint/symbol Creation (Altium)
Scoping of new systems and technologies both for feasibility and product design.
Managing of external design houses and resource as required.
Working together with the Engineering Team to design and create products.
Technical Support and Testing
Production and Manufacturing assistance as required.
Troubleshooting of hardware and system issues seen from all areas of the business.
Self-testing and troubleshooting of your own design and development work.
Completion and lead of Design Reviews if required.
Attending Project meetings when required.
Verification of designs against Requirement Specifications
Mentoring of lower grades assigned to your design function as and when needed.
Documentation and Communication including but not limited to:
Provide task time estimates and risk considerations to the project manager and/or RF and Hardware group manager.
Weekly standup meeting to communicate previous weeks achievements and current weeks priorities.
Organise and lead technical projects including being the lead of Preliminary, Interim and Critical Design Reviews as dictated by company procedures.
Contribute to department processes and procedures.
Creation of design pack documentation.
Collaboration and communication with full engineering team including interacting with other Engineering disciplines to achieve department targets.
Required Experience
Established experience in an equivalent role
The following skills and experience will be required. Candidates are not expected to have experience in all areas;
Familiarity and experience with industry tools such as PCB Design Software and RF simulation tools.
Knowledge of the latest RF components and technologies
Design of linear high power wide band RF amplifiers up to 200 Watts using for example GaN or LDMOS technology
Design of RF filters
Transmitter and Receiver Design experience
LNA, Downâconverter and Upâconverter design
Antenna design
A working knowledge of analogue and digital electronics
EMC experience.
Experience of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, analysers and signal generators.
Practical experience of PCB prototype testing and rework.
Selfâmotivated and enthusiastic.
Ability to work in a team and interact with other Engineering disciplines.
Ability to produce results under pressure.
A canâdo attitude with a willingness to help others.
Preferred Additional Experience, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
An understanding and experience of design of products aligned with CommTech\âs portfolio
Experience with Altium Designer
Experience with Cadence AWR Microwave Office
Experience with Ansys HFSS
Electronics experience of switchâmode PSUs, embedded circuitry, glue logic, analogue electronics and EMC circuitry.
The following skills and experience would also be beneficial;
Experience of designing electronic circuits and subâassemblies for use in military or airborne applications.
Experience of designing for and test/verification MILâSTD\âs and DO160.
Education & Certifications
Bachelors/Masters degree in Engineering/related subject or equivalent work experience
Security
British Citizen or ability to obtain required security clearance (SC).
Travel & Working Environment
Travel unlikely.
Onsite working including working from home policy (3 office/2 WFH).
