As part of Detection and Measurement, Radiodetection is a global leader in the design and development of equipment and software used by utility companies to install, protect, and maintain underground infrastructure networks. Through precision and magnetic locators and ground penetrating radar, we help prevent damage to infrastructure utilities and protect lives.
You will be part of Radiodetection\’s Bristol-based multidisciplinary engineering team, and undertake design, development and maintenance of software for our locator products.
The role requires excellent skills in C/C++ for embedded firmware development in real-time, DSP orientated hardware platforms.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
Additional experience in embedded Linux would be of benefit.
- At least 5-years demonstrable experience in embedded firmware design.
- DSP/Micro based platform bring-up, configuration, development and debugging
- Experience of complete life cycle from specification, prototyping and testing, through to production and support.
- Investigation of firmware issues found in testing, production, or discovered in the field.
- Working closely with hardware and test teams, during requirements and design phases, and to resolve integration problems.
- Effort estimation, identifying technical risks and mitigations
- Contribute to research and project proposals for innovative locator products
- Participation in technical peer reviews.
Required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- C/C++ development for embedded DSPs and micros e.g. TMS320, MSP43x.
- Programming with real-time constraints, multi tasking/RTOS or bare-metal.
- Device driver and peripheral code development and debugging, including using low level registers.
- Good understanding of BT/BLE technology and can deal with underlying technical issues, Experience of driver development for Bluetooth/Low Energy modules.
- Experience of wired data communications and device driver development, especially USB.
- Experience of version control/tracking tools e.g. Git, JIRA.
- General device interfacing e.g. via UART, I2C, SPI.
- Experience with Display UI, Qt/QML for application development (ideally on an embedded platform).
- Experience of embedded design tools e.g. Code Composer Studio, Visual Studio.
Desirable
- Experience of wireless protocols and device driver development e.g. GSM, WiFi.
- Experience of developing and debugging bootloaders.
- GNSS (GPS) positioning devices/technologies and NMEA data decoding.
- An appreciation of Agile development methodology
- Experience of analogue and digital signal processing.
- Network interfaces e.g. Ethernet, and associated protocols.
- Android app development.
- Continuous Integration tools, such as Jenkins.
