Senior Project Controller (EMEA)
At SPX FLOW, we engineer innovative process solutions that help customers produce essential products used around the world. As part of ITT Inc., we combine a strong engineering heritage with global reach, delivering solutions across a wide range of industries including food & beverage, pharmaceuticals, industrial manufacturing and energy.
We are currently looking for a Senior Project Controller to join our Major Projects Team and play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of complex engineering projects across the EMEA region.
Your Impact
As a Senior Project Controller, you will act as a trusted partner to Project Managers and cross-functional teams, helping drive the financial and commercial success of major projects. You will provide clear insight into project performance by combining cost, revenue, margin, cash flow, schedule progress and risk data, enabling informed business decisions throughout the project lifecycle.
In this role, you will be part of the Major Projects team led by the Project Controls Lead - Major Projects. You will report directly to the Head of Project Controls, EMEA & AMER, working closely with key stakeholders across project management, engineering, procurement and finance functions.
This is more than a reporting role. You will challenge assumptions, support forecasting accuracy, facilitate project reviews, drive change management activities and contribute to the continuous improvement of project controls processes and tools across the organization.
What You Will Own
- Partner with Project Managers and Finance to provide an accurate, forward‑looking view of project performance, including revenue, margin, cost, cash flow, progress, risks and opportunities.
- Lead the financial control of assigned projects from baseline development through execution and close‑out, maintaining reliable budgets, forecasts and estimates at completion.
- Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast, identify emerging variances and anomalies early, and translate them into clear recommendations and mitigation actions.
- Facilitate project performance and risk reviews, constructively challenge assumptions, and ensure risks, contingencies and opportunities are appropriately reflected in forecasts.
- Own cost and revenue phasing and support accurate project profit‑and‑loss forecasting, including timely updates of period costs and expected spend.
- Track contractual milestones and stage gates to support timely customer invoicing and stronger project cash performance.
- Establish and maintain effective work breakdown structures (WBS), cost coding and project control documentation in line with financial and project‑management requirements.
- Review project‑specific contract terms, including milestone billing, liquidated damages and scope boundaries, to identify financial exposure and potential change orders.
- Coordinate project change‑control activities, including change‑order reviews, documentation, approval tracking, budgeting and maintenance of the change log.
- Coordinate budgets and scope across legal entities, ensuring that responsibilities and budget distribution remain aligned.
- Prepare clear internal and customer‑facing project reports using SAP, B4HANA, Power BI, Excel and related project tools.
- Protect data integrity and support internal‑control and audit requirements through accurate records, reconciliations and explanations of project results.
- Mentor junior Project Controls colleagues and contribute to cross‑functional initiatives that improve global Project Controls processes, standards and tools.
What You Bring
- At least five years of experience in project controlling, cost control, project finance or a related discipline, ideally in an engineering, industrial or project‑based environment.
- A degree in engineering, accounting, finance or another relevant technical or business field.
- Strong understanding of project financials, including budgeting, cost structures, revenue, margin, cash flow, forecasting, commitments and milestone payments.
- Practical knowledge of WBS structures estimates at completion, project schedules, stage gates, risk provisions and change management.
- Ability to read and apply project and contract requirements, identify commercial implications and support change‑order evaluation.
- Advanced Excel and analytical capability, together with solid ERP experience; SAP experience is preferred.
- Confidence communicating with Project Managers, Finance, Engineering, Procurement and senior stakeholders, including the ability to challenge constructively.
- Ability to explain complex financial information in clear business language and convert analysis into decisions and actions.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Willingness to travel when required, normally no more than one business trip per quarter.
An Advantage, But Not Essential
- Experience with Power BI and B4HANA.
- Experience in engineered‑to‑order, EPC or other complex international project environments.
- Experience mentoring colleagues or helping improve Project Controls standards, reports or digital tools.
Why Join SPX FLOW?
- Competitive salary package of £50,000 - £70,000 gross annual base, depending on experience and qualifications
- Make a visible impact on the financial success of major international projects.
- Collaborate with Project Management, Engineering, Procurement and Finance teams across the organization.
- Work in a truly international environment within a global engineering business.
- Influence and improve project control standards, tools and reporting practices.
- Grow your expertise through challenging projects, broad stakeholder exposure and development opportunities.
