My client is seeking a skilled and dependable HGV Technician to join their expanding operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, servicing, and repair of a varied fleet of heavy goods and commercial vehicles, including refuse collection vehicles (RCVs), ensuring they remain compliant, safe, and fully operational.
This position requires strong diagnostic capability, sound mechanical knowledge, and experience working in a demanding workshop environment with specialist municipal and commercial vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles, including refuse collection vehicles
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults using diagnostic equipment and schematics
- Undertake repairs on RCV bodies, bin lifts, compactors, and associated hydraulic systems
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety regulations and industry standards
- Work across a broad range of fleet assets in a fast-paced environment
- Carry out fabrication, welding, and minor electrical repairs as required
- Accurately complete job cards, service records, and compliance documentation
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping within the workshop
Skills and Experience Required:
- Proven experience as an HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic / HGV Engineer
- Previous experience working on RCV or municipal fleets is highly desirable
- Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge of heavy commercial vehicles
- Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance qualification desirable (NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent)
- Confident working with hydraulic systems, and compaction equipment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physically capable of carrying out manual and demanding work
- Strong attention to detail and fault-finding ability
- Sound understanding of health and safety requirements
