A small, welcoming village primary near Southam, Warwickshire is looking for a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 4 pupil on a full-time, long-term basis. The school is easily reachable by car from Rugby and south Coventry, typically around 15 to 20 minutes depending on where you're based, using your own transport to get there. This placement runs until at least the end of the current academic year, with a genuine possibility of continuing into September and beyond.

The pupil you'll be working with responds really well to individual attention. They're currently being assessed for autism and have some emotional regulation needs connected to past experiences. There will be hard moments, including some shouting and tears, but there will also be real breakthroughs. The kind that stay with you. Your base will be a Year 4 classroom, with access to The Nest, a dedicated nurture space designed to feel more like a lounge than a classroom. Soft furnishings, a calm atmosphere, and a quieter setting for those moments when the pupil needs space to settle.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing consistent, patient 1:1 support throughout the full school day
  • Helping the pupil feel heard, settled, and ready to engage with learning
  • Using The Nest provision when the pupil needs space to regulate
  • Working alongside the class teacher and support staff in a collaborative way
  • Maintaining regular communication with the SENCO to share observations and progress
  • Adapting your approach based on the pupil's mood and regulation state on any given day
  • Contributing to a calm, structured routine that helps the pupil feel safe

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has at least 6 months' experience supporting pupils with SEN in a school setting
  • Stays calm and grounded when behaviour is challenging, and doesn't take it personally
  • Understands what's behind dysregulated behaviour, not just what it looks like
  • Knows how to build trust with a child slowly, consistently, and over time
  • Has some knowledge of autism, SEMH needs, or emotional regulation approaches
  • Is reliable and committed to being a consistent presence for one pupil, day after day
  • Holds, or is willing to apply for, an Enhanced DBS registered with the Update Service
