As an Achievement and Progress Support Assistant/Teaching Assistant (Pupil Specific), you will work with teachers to raise the learning and attainment of the pupil while also promoting their independence, self‑esteem, and social inclusion.

Salary: Scale C Point 5 £13.26/hour approx. £18,300/annum (FTE £25,583 based on a 37 hour week – salary will be pro rata)

Hours: 30.92 hours/week – 39 weeks (term time plus one)

Start Date: 01 September 2026

Purpose of the Job: Manage the provision of support for the student with Special Educational Needs, implementing strategies and advice included in the pupil’s Education, Health and Care Plan or Support Plan and contributing to termly and annual reviews. Deliver or facilitate interventions as required and primarily support a specific pupil while also supporting a variety of students with a range of needs across year groups and curriculum areas.

Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Personal and Professional Conduct: Uphold public trust in the education profession by exercising proper regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school. Demonstrate positive attitudes, values and behaviours to develop and sustain effective relationships with the school community. Safeguard pupils’ wellbeing by following relevant statutory guidance along with school policies and practice. Respect individual differences and cultural diversity, upholding values consistent with those required of teachers.
  • Knowledge and Understanding: Acquire appropriate skills, qualifications, and/or experience required for the teaching assistant role, with support from the school employer. Demonstrate expertise and skills in understanding the needs of all pupils, including specialist expertise where appropriate, and know how to adapt and deliver support to meet individual needs. Keep knowledge and understanding relevant and up to date by reflecting on practice, liaising with school leaders, and accessing professional development to improve effectiveness. Maintain subject and curriculum knowledge relevant to the role and apply it effectively in supporting teachers and pupils. Recognise that responsibilities may extend beyond a direct support role within the classroom and whole‑school context.
  • Teaching and Learning: Adopt relevant strategies to support the teacher and increase achievement of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities. Promote, support and facilitate inclusion by encouraging participation of all pupils in learning and extracurricular activities. Use effective behaviour management strategies consistently, following the school’s policy and procedures. Support effective assessment and planning by contributing to the monitoring, recording and reporting of pupil progress.
  • Working with Others: Respect the role and contribution of other professionals, parents and carers by liaising effectively and working in partnership. Keep other professionals accurately informed of progress or concerns regarding pupils. Share knowledge to inform planning and decision‑making. Collaborate with classroom teachers and other colleagues, including specialist advisory teachers.
