An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Springhill Hospice Specialist Palliative Care Team covering Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual. The ideal candidate will provide an overnight sitting service for patients at the end of life. The Night Sitter will provide care, where appropriate, and enable family members to take a break from their caring duties in the knowledge that the patient is being closely monitored and cared for in their own home. Previous experience of caring for patients with palliative care needs and/or patients at the end of life is essential. The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team providing specialist palliative care and end of life care to patients and families.
Main duties of the job include:
- To provide an overnight sitting service for patients at the end of life.
- To deliver care, as appropriate, and within the scope of individual competency.
- Provide emotional and psychological support to patient and family.
- To respond to any change in the patient's condition appropriately, calling on the support of the Hospice Nursing team, District Nurses and/or General Practitioner/Bardoc, as required.
- To maintain appropriate written/electronic documentation in respect of care given and any significant changes/interventions.
- To provide effective handover following the night sit to Community Care Coordinator/Liaison or SPCN during the weekend.
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with GDPR.
- Promote privacy and dignity in all aspects of patient care.
- Flexible working pattern over 7 days including weekend availability.
- To attend Springhill Hospice Induction Training programme, as required.
- To attend Mandatory Training programmes and online training as required.
- To report to senior Hospice staff as appropriate.
- To communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- To ensure excellent timekeeping.
- To attend staff meetings.
- Read, understand and comply with all Hospice policies and procedures, applying the principles appropriate to the role.
- To be aware of individual specific responsibilities in respect of the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Previous experience of caring for patients with palliative care needs and/or patients at the end of life.
- Experience of working within a Hospice or Community environment.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Empathetic and compassionate nature.
- Confidence to care for patients at the end of life.
- Ability to provide emotional and psychological support to patients and families.
- Evidence of working with patient assessments and care plans.
- Desire to increase knowledge and skills within palliative care.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Salary: £23,863 to £24,303 a year pro rata based on 37.5 hours.
